Traill Double Champions 2012 – Boys 15 Champions and Girls U15 Champions

at St. Stephan’s Khao Yai U15 Basketball Tournament
Congratulations to both the Traill Dragons U15 Boys and the U15 Girls team who each won the gold medal and the 2012 St. Stephan’s Basketball Championship.

Traill Dragons U15 Boys:
The Boys final against TCIS was very tense and exciting. Both teams were closely matched with each team taking turns to take the lead. TCIS had 3 new huge players who gave the Traill Dragons a very tough time. Outsized, the boys rallied together with the usual Traill spirit and fought hard all the way through the game. As the clock counted down to just 10 seconds left, the score was level at 27 to 27. The strategy from coach Joe worked, and a TCIS player was forced to commit a foul on ‘France’ in Yr 9. Traill was awarded a 2 shot penalty free throw with only 1 second left on the clock. ‘France’ converted his second free throw - the “winning shot”, beating TCIS  with the score of 28 to 27, and winning the championship.

Traill Dragons U15 Girls:
The Girls final was against Bromsgrove. With a strong start, Bromsgrove quickly took the lead and were ahead for the first half of the match. At one point it looked like it was all over for Traill. However, the Traill U15 girls rallied together and drew level. In the fourth quarter, Traill grew in confidence and took the lead beating Bromsgrove with a convincing score of 27 to 19 points.

Winning the Double Championship was due to hard work and training for over 2 years.  The Boys and Girls gave up their holidays and trained over the Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays.  The Boys even trained twice a day during the summer.  Traill currently has one of the best basketball programs in Thailand.  We must also not forget the coaching staff, Mr. Joe and Mr. Jose, who put so much time and effort into the hours and hours of coaching and instilling in the Traill team the confidence to win.
