Traill School was established fifty years ago, in 1966 by Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Traill. They named it "The Preparatory School". It was the first British Secondary School in Thailand. Most of its students were prepared for entry in to schools and universities in the US and Britain. The school was also set up for Kindergarten and Primary School.
At that time, the British education system was less well known in Thailand compared to the American system. However, the school still expanded quickly to over 300 students, catering mainly to American expatriates who preferred the academic style of British education.
The Preparatory School grew to three campuses, Sukhumvit Soi 3, Paholyothin Soi 11 and Ramkamhaeng Soi 18 (where the school is currently based). The name was changed to “Traill International School” in the late 80s.
Mr. Traill believed in the all-round development of his students, including athletic, academic and moral attributes. He combined the achievement of academic excellence with the development of good character, setting the students in a warm and homely environment that was to become the defining trait of Traill today. With a background as a track-and-field athletics coach for Great Britain, in two Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games, sporting excellence was always an important focus of the curriculum for Mr. Traill.
Innovation was a key part of the founding ethos. The school was the first international school in Thailand to be fully air-conditioned, pioneered GCE O Levels, and introduced computers before they became mainstream in the education system. The school became recognised as the computer examination centre for London University in Thailand. When O Levels were replaced by Cambridge University IGCSEs, the school was the first to become an accredited centre.
With the school achieving 50 years of academic excellence, the Traill family is still involved in the school as Governors and Directors. Over the years, the school has grown and developed with new buildings and state-of-the-art facilities. The school continues to grow but always in keeping with the ideals set by Mr. Anthony Traill, whilst continually developing further its curriculum, standards and philosophies in to the future. With careful planning and well thought-out building designs, the school keeps its homely, happy and secure environment for its students to learn and develop into well rounded individuals.
